The W.K. Kellogg Foundation Awarded ADEA MDFDI

Logic Insurance, - The W.K. Kellogg Foundation has awarded a two-year, $200,000 grant to the American Dental Education Association Minority Dental Faculty Development and Inclusion (ADEA MDFDI) program to address oral health disparities experienced by vulnerable children and their families. The program aims to reduce barriers to dental care through academic/community partnerships that increase diversity in the dental workforce.

Research indicates that patients from diverse ethnic, racial, and socioeconomic backgrounds are more likely to seek health care from a minority provider. In addition, trends show that health professionals from underserved areas often return to those areas to practice.

The W.K. Kellogg Foundation Awarded ADEA MDFDI

The ADEA MDFDI program develops more diverse generations of allied dental health professionals to meet the significant unmet need for dental care across the United States. The leadership training model emphasizes interprofessional education and team-based care, cultural and linguistic competency, academic mentorship, and increased diversity in the academic pipeline.

“Children in particular need access to dental care in the right place at the right time to protect their overall health,” says Jeanne C. Sinkford, DDS, PhD, the ADEA’s senior scholar-in-residence. “These partnerships are breaking down barriers to dental care for the most vulnerable communities and helping to create a dental workforce better prepared for a growing and more diverse America.”

Over 108 million Americans lack dental insurance and thus access to dental care—and children in underserved communities are disproportionately affected by this epidemic. Untreated dental caries (cavities) was more than twice as high for Hispanic children (26%) and for non-Hispanic black adolescents ages 13–15 (25%) compared with non-Hispanic white children and adolescents respectively.

Building on lessons learned from twenty-four ADEA MDFDI academic-community partnerships, the program will extend its efforts to geographic areas with new or no existing dental schools. These new partners will work hand-in-hand with allied dental faculty to provide dental and preventive care to children and adolescents in underserved areas.

“The numbers speak for themselves, and they are telling us in no uncertain terms that we must tackle access to dental care head on,” says Richard W. Valachovic, DMD, MPH, president and CEO of ADEA. “We are so fortunate to have the ongoing support of the W.K. Kellogg Foundation as we work to ensure that geography and financial resources are no longer obstacles to good oral health.”

The Lowest Allowable Write Offs Dental Insurance

Logic Insurance, The Lowest Allowable Write Offs Dental Insurance - I was trained (years ago) that we had to honor the largest write off between the two insurances when there was dual insurance. Otherwise, we would be in breach of our PPO contract with the insurance company, regardless of whether the primary or secondary had the lowest allowable.

Can you please clarify which write-off has to be honored? Does it vary by state? Can you also tell me where I may find written documentation that I can take to the doctor/ practice administrator?

This is a tricky question with a tricky answer, but you are on the right track. The best practice in this case is to honor the allowance of the primary insurance. Keep in mind that you cannot collect more than your fee, and don't over adjust if you don't need to.

You don't want to end up with patient credit balances. Usually any extra collected above the PPO fee belongs to the doctor, but always be safe and check the contract language for the insurance companies involved.

I like to wait until I've received both payments and then make the write-offs. Just make sure you keep your remittance/EOB handy or make a note in the account.

As far as obtaining written documentation, check your contracts with the insurance companies first. If that doesn't clear it up, head to this page — http://www.ada.org/news/2164.aspx. The ADA has collectively gathered information from several resources, including the National Association of Dental Plans.  (logic insurance article source: Dentistry.com)

Dental Insurance for Colorado Small Businesses

Logic Insurance, Dental Insurance for Colorado Small Businesses - Half of Colorado’s smallest businesses are considering changing health insurance carriers for 2015 and dental insurance is the most important option to these businesses, according to results of a recent statewide survey of small businesses commissioned by Delta Dental of Colorado.
Nearly nine in 10 Colorado small business owners and benefits decision-makers consider employee benefits “extremely” or “very” important, and a majority see benefits getting more important in the future as a way to attract and retain talent. Among ancillary benefits, dental insurance is the most popular option, with nearly eight in 10 businesses offering dental coverage.

Dental Insurance for Colorado Small Businesses

“Small business owners told us they are in a state of ‘jump ball’ when it comes to health benefits, and they are open to change,” said Kate Paul, CEO of Delta Dental of Colorado. “They are feeling the effects of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) and see more change ahead. But despite the uncertainty, they value health benefits – including dental coverage – more than ever.”

Among businesses with five to 49 employees, half are considering changing their insurance carrier next year, while the other half felt “extremely” or “very” confident that they would renew with their current carrier. Larger businesses with 50 to 100 employees are more likely to keep their current carriers, with seven in 10 saying they were “extremely” or “very likely” to stay with current plans.

The results are among the key findings of Delta Dental of Colorado’s 1st Annual Colorado Small Business Health Benefits Survey, a telephone survey of 320 small business owners and benefits decision-makers across Colorado conducted in August and September. Other findings include:
  • More than half of Colorado’s smallest businesses (under 50 employees) say the ACA has impacted their benefits offerings, with most citing increased cost.
  • Nearly six in 10 small businesses expect more change in 2016.
  • Seven in 10 small businesses say insurance brokers are more important because of the ACA.
  • While awareness of the Small Business Health Options Program (SHOP, an ACA marketplace specifically for small employers with 50 or fewer employees) is low, a majority of small businesses would consider using it for their employee benefits 2016.
“These findings reflect what our members are experiencing coming into Open Enrollment – change is happening and small businesses need help navigating the new health care landscape,” said Kelly Brough, president and CEO of the Denver Metro Chamber of Commerce and Board member of Delta Dental of Colorado.

“This is critical information for all of us who serve small businesses on a daily basis. We must continue to engage owners and benefits decision-makers about the impact of the ACA on their businesses.”(Denal Insurance Article soure: http://www.dentistryiq.com/articles/2014/11/dental-insurance-most-popular-benefit-option-for-colorado-small-businesses.html)

65% Americans Visit the Dentist Once a Year

Logic Insurance, 65% Americans Visit the Dentist Once a Year - While about two-thirds of Americans (65 percent) visit the dentist at least once a year, nearly half of them (47 percent) have gone three years or more without seeing the dentist at least once during their lives.

“According to the Delta Dental Oral Health and Well-Being Survey, most Americans visit the dentist at least once a year, and those who do are 37 percent more likely to report their oral health as good or better versus those who infrequently find themselves in a dentist’s chair,” says Dr. Bill Kohn, DDS, and vice president of dental science and policy for Delta Dental Plans Association. “Still, a lot of Americans take a break from routine dentist visits at some point in their lives.”

Nearly six of 10 Americans (58 percent) say they have felt fear or reluctance regarding a dental visit, according to the Delta Dental survey. Most said that they were afraid to find out what care they needed or that they couldn’t afford to pay for care. Younger Americans, ages 18 to 44, have felt more apprehension about visiting the dentist than those who are 45 and older.

Despite the fear and reluctance many Americans feel in going to the dentist, most (57 percent) say they feel refreshed after doing so. “More often than not, you feel good walking out of a dentist’s office. Your mouth feels cleaner, and your mind feels better because you are taking care of yourself,” Kohn says.

“Regular dental visits are part of important preventive care,” Kohn says. “It’s good to stay in, or get back into, the habit of visiting a dentist. Your dentist can help you to determine how often you need to visit.”

For people with existing mouth problems, such as gum disease, or medical problems like diabetes or dry mouth, one dental visit a year may not be enough, according to Kohn. For those at higher risk of developing oral problems, three or four visits a year may be best. “On the other hand,” Kohn says, “if you enjoy good oral health and have low risks, you will not need the same level of preventive treatments or exams.”

logic insurance

One way to stay in the habit is to find a regular dentist. According to the Delta Dental survey, nearly one in four Americans (23 percent) do not have a regular dentist, while 40 percent say they’ve been going to the same dentist for three years or more. Americans in the Midwest and Northeast are somewhat more likely to be in a long-term relationship with their dentists than those in the South or West. For more results from the Delta Dental Oral Health and Well-Being Survey, visit deltadental.com. How to Achieving Greater Practice Growth Through Insurance

Logic Insurance, How to Achieving Greater Practice Growth Through Insurance - The concept behind providing genuine benefits to both patients and dentists. As the first quarter of 2015 draws to a close, it is an opportune time to reflect on the state of  dental practice.

Is your practice where you want it to be, or at least heading in the right direction? Many dentists set practice growth goals for the year, but in today’s environment, achieving meaningful practice growth can be easier said than done.

It’s certainly no longer business as usual for dentists. Insurance reimbursement rates are falling across the board, up to as much as 20%. Meanwhile, consumer dental spending has steadily declined since 2008. In fact, according to a 2012 report from the American Dental Association, in recent years there has been a substantial increase in the percentage of Americans who cannot afford dental care.

How to Achieving Greater Practice Growth Through Insurance

Many dentists need a way to reactivate their dormant patient base and attract more fee-for-service patients, without increasing their reliance on insurance. What dentists need is a bilateral solution, one that is meaningful to patients while establishing a sustainable stream of revenue for the practice.

That’s where the idea of the dental savings plan comes in. An in-house dental savings plan helps patients feel like they “belong” in the dental practice. For a simple annual fee that is often more affordable than dental insurance, patients gain access to a year’s worth of preventive care, and the membership often unlocks further savings on cosmetic and restorative procedures.

Similar to a membership at warehouse retail giant Costco, a dental savings plan helps patients see value in your practice without haggling over prices. It gives patients a compelling reason to visit your practice, and it keeps them coming back to take advantage of all the benefits in your practice.

What are those benefits? First, patients feel they’re welcome in the practice whether or not they have dental insurance. Many dentists don’t even realize that thanks to our friends in the medical field, prospective patients often worry that without insurance they won’t be able to be seen in the practice.

Next, with an in-house savings plan, patients come to understand they cannot access the same level of care at the same value at any other practice in the area. Finally, dental savings plans provide patients with peace of mind. They feel at ease knowing their dental needs are covered for the year, and they no longer need to worry about co-pays, deductibles, or maximums.

Once patients see the value in making and keeping their regular appointments, loyalty to the dentist is established, which fosters a bond that’s difficult to break. Member patients are not only loyal, they become ambassadors for the practice, happily sharing their positive experiences with their friends and family. This results in more patient referrals to the practice.

Case acceptance rates rise as much as 20% because patients are more likely to proceed with treatment knowing that they’re “covered.” Since patients pay upfront for their annual savings plan fees and all services rendered under the in-house plan, practice revenue often increases by as much as 30%, creating a predictable annual revenue stream.

One such dental savings program is Quality Dental Plan (QDP). Founded by Dan Marut, DMD, QDP has been in business longer than any other in-house savings plan. Dr. Marut created, tested, and refined the QDP concept in his own practice before launching the program nationwide in 2009.

logic insurance

While managing his practice, he witnessed firsthand the struggles patients experienced trying to afford basic dental care. Dealing with insurance company hassles took time away from what he was most passionate about – treating patients. He set out to create a viable solution for both his patients and practice, and six years later, QDP is now in hundreds of dental practices across the country.

Ross A. Bennett, DDS, from Cape Girardeau, Missouri, has experienced the benefits of QDP firsthand. Since implementing the program in his practice in 2014, Dr. Bennett has already produced 100 times his initial investment. His patients are now coming in and completing years of previously unscheduled treatment, and they are referring new patients as well.

“We’re approaching 300 members in just over one year, while adding more patients each week,” said Dr. Bennett. “Needless to say, we’re incredibly pleased with our success in leveraging this program to increase production and reduce patients’ dependence on insurance.”

Dr. Joe Maltsberger is also a witness to the benefits of the dental savings plan at his practice in Oologah, Oklahoma. In his first year as a QDP member, Dr. Maltsberger created a predictable annual revenue stream of $90,000, all while tightening recall intervals and increasing case acceptance rates because patients had prepaid for treatment.

A dentist’s passion is to provide care for patients, not focus on the practice’s bottom line. Yet in order to be able to continue practicing their craft, dentists must understand how to attract and retain their patient clientele. Now there is finally a proven strategy for attracting more patients and building practice longevity. If your practice growth is stagnant, consider using a dental savings plan to put your practice goals well within reach. (Logic Insurance article source: Naomi Cooper)

Tips for Using Dental Insurance

Logic Insurance, Tips for Using Dental Insurance - When discussing dental insurance benefits, the cliche phrase "use it or lose it" truly applies. Most dental insurances allow so many dollars per calendar year, and any dollars that are not utilized are lost.

Additionally, the same philosophy applies to Flexible Spending or Health Saving Accounts, which force you to forfeit any left over money that you have paid for. Therefore, it is in your best interest to use these benefits each year before they expire and your money is lost.

Now that the end of the year is quickly approaching and there are only a few short months left to maximize your dental insurance benefits, I thought some tips to help educate patients would be valuable.

How to Choose Best Dental Insurance

Before scheduling a dental appointment, call your insurance provider to find out the exact amount of your unspent dental benefits. Additionally, ask them what is covered with your policy. Typically, preventative procedures like cleanings, x-rays, and dental exams are covered, while cosmetic procedures, like whitening and veneers, are not. Although, most dentists have staff members who check this for you, it is always nice walking into the office knowing what your out-of-pocket expenses may be.

Logic insurance

When calling your dentist's office, be sure to not only schedule for yourself but also for eligible family members. However, don't forget that many dental offices may be seeing an influx of patients at this time, and the sooner you call, the more likely your dentist will be able to schedule your families' appointments.

Sometimes it is possible and beneficial to complete dental treatment in phases. This works nicely at the end of the year and the beginning of the next year. Depending on your individual needs, careful planning to maximize your benefits remaining for 2013, while completing the remainder of your treatment in early 2014 can provide you with more reimbursement than waiting to do it all the treatment next year. But, it is important to keep in mind that when insurance renews, there may be coverage changes, which includes changes in procedures covered and co=pays.

Saving money shouldn't be your only motivation when visiting the dentist. Routine dental visits can detect early problems like gum disease and oral cancers. In addition it is important to remember that even a small cavity left untreated can become a bigger, more expensive dental problem in the future. Be sure to use your dental insurance benefits before you lose them! (Jon Frankel)

Dental Services Discount

Logic Insurance, Dental Insurance Tips: Dental Services Discount  - Are you wondering what type of discount dental services do discount dental plans offer you? It is amazing how such an affordable dental plan can cover so many procedures.

You may have felt in the past that getting discount dental work was just a thought and was not possible. Well this article will help realize that dental discount plans can make affordable dental procedures a reality in your life.

Let's take a look at just some of these procedures so you can see the significant savings available to you.

Dental Insurance Tips: Dental Services Discount

I'm going to pick out one dental plan from a list of many so you can see exactly what some of the reductions are available to you.

As you sit in the dentist chair of course you will be asked what brought you to the dentist office. Usually before the dentist will take a look around your mouth a set x-rays will be your first step.

Take for example a four bite wing x-rays that would normally run $70 would cost you only $29. That's a nice 59% savings.

Logic Insurance

A normal adult tooth cleaning that would cost you $102 would only run you $46 that's $56 back to your pocket. Can you receive this type of savings on some of the more expensive dental procedures? What if you had to get your tooth pulled? That would set you back $197. With the discount dental work we are talking about your outlay would only be $69.

What about a fairly serious dental procedure such as a root canal. For a front tooth root canal you could expect to pay $826. Actually your cost is only $348 that's a savings of $478 or 58%.

Also it is important for you to remember that there is a big selection of discount dental services that are available to you with this type of plan.

You probably also want to know is there a dentist near me. Yes there is. Just keep reading and you will be able to find a local affordable dentist close by.

I was surprised to notice that the plan I was reviewing also covered dental implants and cosmetic dental services also.

But what surprised me the most was the cost of the plan I was reviewing. You'll be surprised to discover that it was $189.95 for a family and less than that for an individual. Oh by the way that was for a full year not a month. (Ivy Creel)

Few Simple Ways to Combat Bad Stink Breath

Logic Insurance, Few Simple Ways to Combat Bad Stink Breath - Why do I have bad breath? That is a question all of us need to ask ourselves on a regular basis because we may have it and not even know it

There is an awful sounding word for bad breath known as halitosis. If you are like me you don't want to be identified with that word. Actually halitosis may be originating simply from the foods you eat.

Whether it is what you eat or a serious dental problem that is causing halitosis I know you want to get rid of it. It really gets down to this. You don't want the people you hang around with to avoid you because they don't have the guts to tell you about the bad odor coming from your mouth.

The best thing to do is to start bad breath treatments on your own. A simple first step is watching the foods you eat that can cause this dilemma. Some of these would be:

Citrus juices believe it or not can be one of the culprits. If you don't drink in moderation the acid found in the fruits can be fuel for bacteria forming in your mouth.

Garlic and onions are at the top of the list. While they do wonders for the taste of the food we eat and are healthy they are a big cause of bad breath.

If you are a lover of dairy products be aware because they can cause bacteria on your tongue. Of course two favorite's alcohol and coffee are on the list. It also goes without saying if you are a smoker this can be a big factor.

Few Simple Ways to Combat Bad Stink Breath

You'll be surprised to discover that eating yogurt with probiotics will go a long ways in alleviating this difficulty in your life. Also by just simply drinking water on a regular basis will help also.

Some habits that hopefully you are doing on a daily basis are brushing, flossing and rinsing at least two or three times a day. Remember when you brush make sure you brush your tongue also.

What if these simple daily habits don't stop my awful breath?
Well it is probably time to visit your dentist. There may be some minor or ever more serious dental issues at play. Plaque on your teeth especially if it has turned into gum disease may be a major source of your problem. Cavities can also play a big factor in bad breath.

Logic INsurance, Halitosis Problem solving

What if I can't afford to go to the dentist?
Well I have good news for you. If you can afford less than $180 a year for a family and less than a $100 a year for an individual for a dental plan you should read a little further. I will tell you how you can look for your affordable dental plan.

All of us are not able to go to the dentist on a regular basis because it can get expensive. I have a good option for you to consider that should fit easily into your budget. (Ivy Creel)

Dental Plan and Dental Insurance

Logic Insurance, Dental Plan and Dental Insurance  - A summation of proper care for your teeth is not always brushing your teeth day and night, it is also about taking the time out for a proper dental care of both your teeth and gums. Bacteria reside even in the smallest corners of our teeth and escapes completely from the brush.

A proper dental check will ensure that you have your gums and teeth in check and the bacterias always dead. Getting a dental insurance will improve the condition of dental care completely.

While via normal procedure you have to go through different appointments with different dentist for every portions of your checkup, insurance will let you choose the dentist of your approval which will lead to a cordial relationship between the dentist and you.

From a financial point of view, provides more opportunity savings for you as health insurances usually sum up in a big expenditure involving both medical and dental services. Though the cost for dental cleaning is always high, a separate dental care in itself will ensure proper savings for you hence, the discount.

Dental Insurance Plans

Whenever buying a plan, be aware of the insurance plan. An insurance can be anywhere between 3 months to 3 years in an insurance plan respectively. To ensure that the customer does not resign after a major dental procedure, are introduced in order to efficiently manage clients and discourage them from resigning.

Direct reimbursement plans
This is the most expensive plan from the dental insurances. Dental Insurance is not a feature of this plan and the insured person has to pay directly to the dentist from whom services were rendered.

logic insurance

Employee employer is a prevalent feature of this plan as the customer has to provide the bill to be reimbursed with the part of the expenditure or the whole amount of the expense for which services was rendered. Being the only plan that covers your pre-existing problems, it is an expensive plan based on employment.

Dental discount plans
A type of discount most suitable for senior citizens, dental discount plans also has no waiting period. It is not employment based and is usually cost effective letting its members save around 60% in procedures like fillings, cleaning, bracings and check ups.

A collective group is formed letting a new individual become part of the group with nominal fees. Hence, these are much cheaper compare to dental insurance.

Dental plans with a waiting period
For an individual person with basic preventive procedures like cleaning, is not needed while managing planned care like group have a waiting period as it is the cheapest. While procedures like general cleaning service and radiographics have no waiting period, bigger procedures like general anesthesia and oral surgery have a waiting period of 12 months.

To make the matter clear about the waiting period, the waiting period is inversely proportional to the condition for the procedure. (Calinton Hall)

Advantages of Individual Dental Plan

Logic Insurance, Advantages of Individual Dental Plan - If you want to get the best benefits out of the dental coverage, you should get to know the features of personal dental plans. The best way to take full advantage of this is to understand its features. Our best advice to you would be that you read your benefits information before you go to your dentist.

There are different plans each with unique features. Most of the dental plans come with an annual cap, which means the cost above the cap is the patients responsibility.

The Benefits of Dental Coverage

Individual dental plans allow friends or co-workers to join your coverage but each of them can select a different type of coverage than what you already have. The network within the dental plan you have may not allow a specific dentist. Alternatively, you should find a dentist within your area that will cover any potential claim.

You could be entitled to multiple benefits from two or more groups. However, the compensation coverage from all the group plans is typically not over 100 percent of the total dental cost. In addition, there are benefits available for dependents that vary from one option to the other. Special clauses and the language of terms and conditions is something that you should carefully read.

Here are some of the key concepts before you buy individual dental plans. There are reimbursement levels, co-insurance, deductibles and maximums. The annual maximum or annual dollar maximum specifies the largest amount of claim coverage within the plan period which is one year.

logic insurance, dental insurance

Plans vary on deductibles, which is a part of your dental bill that you need to satisfy before the benefit can give to your expenses. Since deductibles differ from plan to plan, read the plan document to understand whether your deductibles apply to preventive or diagnostic treatment.

The co-insurance provision is a part of each plan, according to which a fixed percentage of your treatment cost covers from your benefit provisions, while you are liable to pay the balance amount. The amount you pay is known as co-insurance. There are three levels of reimbursements offered by many dental plans including diagnostic, basic treatments, and major services.

It is easy to understand individual dental plans if you read your plan very carefully. Also, understanding this process before visiting a dentist will help you save on your expenses. Once you understand these concepts, you can find the one that meets your needs best.

Finding a great discount dental plan provider in the New York area can be a trying task. Searching online is a great tool to be able to find the best affordable individual dental plans or plans for your family. Be sure to do your research to make sure that the plan you get best suits your family's needs. (Ariel Norton)

101 Dental Insurance

Logic Insurance, 101 Dental Insurance Review -You brush your teeth twice a day, floss, and rinse with mouthwash because that's what you were told to do. But this routine is better for far more than just minty fresh breath.

Did you know that oral hygiene ties in with other aspects of your health? For instance, a person with poor oral health is at a higher risk for heart disease. Yikes! It's a good thing you've been dutifully brushing. But you can do even more by taking advantage of what a dental insurance policy can offer.

101 Dental Insurance Review

A good dental plan provides coverage for a variety of dental treatments (coverage varies between policy options), such as:
  • Routine teeth cleanings
  • Emergency dental care and procedures
  • Fillings and crowns
  • Orthodontics
  • Accidental dental injuries
  • Reconstructive or plastic surgery following an injury or oral cancer
Dental insurance is very different than medical insurance for two main reasons:
  • The low cost makes dental plans affordable for individuals, families, and companies that offer dental as part of a benefit package.
  • A dental plan encourages and often pays for routine checkups.
What does this mean for you? Unlike some types of insurance products, people with a dental plan start to benefit immediately. It's a good rule of thumb to visit your dentist for a teeth cleaning every six months. When these visits are covered and the pressure is off your wallet, it's easier to stick to a regular dental care schedule. Maintaining good oral health can be expensive on your own, but with a reasonable monthly premium you can prevent those bills from sneaking up on you.

logic insurance

There are several dental policies available, including, but not limited to:
  • PPO Plans: With this plan, customers are presented with a group of dentists who provide dental care to patients within the group at a discounted rate.
  • Direct Reimbursement: Also known as Self-Insurance, this is a choice option for businesses because it's likely to save them money in the case of employees not taking advantage of their benefits. With this plan, employees are invited to visit their preferred dentist for services. The patient pays the dentist and is then reimbursed by their employer.
  • Indemnity Programs: With this plan, you are free to choose your own dentist. A patients pays the dentist and then his or her insurance company pays a set portion of the total fees.

Take the Advantage of Dental Insurance Coverage

Logic Insurance (Take the Advantage of Dental Insurance Coverage) - Dental treatments can put a serious dent on your finances, and it's but fitting that you take advantage of every opportunity to finance it through insurance coverage. The problem with this option is its limitations; cosmetic dental procedures are hardly covered by insurance, if at all, and you're often required to pay for the treatment and professional fees out of your own pocket.

The next time you consider teeth whitening or porcelain veneers, think of the cost first, if you're able and willing to commit. Some treatments also come with a significant upkeep. Dental implant placements require several sessions, and the cost of the procedure is placed on each tooth, depending on the placement area.
